CapeNature contributes to the City Nature Challenge 2022
The City Nature Challenge is an international BioBlitz type competition that took place between 29 April and 2 May this year. Twelve South African municipalities participated, with six of these being in the Western Cape including the City of Cape Town, Stellenbosch, Garden Route, Overstrand, Southern Overberg and West Coast.
Cities from around the world compete to see who can make the most observations of nature, find the most species, and engage the most people.
CapeNature participated again this year with nine planned events. Staff, specialists and community members in five of the six Western Cape municipalities made their contributions towards the count. A total of 205 people participated and approximately 1 500 observations were made through these events at reserves such as Goukamma, Rocherpan and Ganzekraal.
