International Plant Appreciation Day

30 Mar 2022

International Plant Appreciation Day is celebrated on 13 April and although there is no annual theme, CapeNature will be focusing on what makes the plants of the Western Cape unique, how they differ from the rest of South Africa and why planting at this time of the year is a good thing.

We encourage more tree planting – contributing to the “Plant 1 Million Trees Movement”. Why not do your part and plant a tree between now and the end of June? Simply send us a picture of your tree and email learning@capenature.co.za (100 points).

Winter is the best time to plant trees in the Western Cape because they will have enough water from winter rains and it gives them time to get used to their new homes before warmer weather sets in. There is also less wind at this time of the year and fewer insects that can munch away at it! Always make sure that before you plant a tree, you get the best advice about what trees are local to your area so that you plant the right type.

Energy Is Important!

Imagine you have a super cool toy that everyone loves to play with, but there’s only one of it, and it’s starting to get a little worn out. You can’t just play with it forever—eventually, it’ll run out of power, and you’ll need to wait for a new one, right? Well, that’s kind of like energy!
