Junior hikers join Cubs Club
CapeNature partnered with the Hikers Network to offer members with children between the ages of 4 and 13 the opportunity to join the newly launched CapeNature Cubs Club whilst enjoying a day out hiking at Newlands Forest.
The event coincided with International Day for Biological Diversity – an annual calendar day set aside to bring awareness to the importance of biodiversity. This year’s theme, “Building a shared future for all life”, presented the perfect learning opportunity to guide the next generation on how they can build an inclusive future by caring for nature.
Signed-up children were very excited to receive their official CapeNature Cubs Club welcome gifts on the spot. An informative hike, led by the Hikers Network, included educational stops to cover topics such as waste, invasive species, and the importance of biodiversity. Children also participated in a clean-up during the hike, collecting litter found along the route in their #DontBeTrashy garbage bags.
Members of the CapeNature Cubs Club are issued a quarterly newsletter which includes environmentally friendly action projects for which they can earn points and be eligible for fantastic prizes based on a scoring system.
CapeNature Cubs Club encourages environmental action and provides incentives to all participants.
