CapeNature launches Group Component of its Cubs Club
CapeNature is thrilled to announce the launch of the group component of its Cubs Club. This new addition allows groups of children to sign up for the Cubs Club, expanding the reach, and offering exciting opportunities for organisations, schools and other groups to engage children in environmental education and conservation action. Sign up is free and available to groups with members aged 4 to 13.
According to Dr Razeena Omar, CEO: CapeNature, “The Cubs Club, previously only available for individual sign ups, has been immensely successful in fostering a love for nature among young conservation enthusiasts. By including groups, we can reach more children and expand on the positive environmental actions being implemented by Cubs Club members across the Western Cape. The programme aims to educate young minds about the importance of biodiversity conservation, but most importantly, to change their behaviour in a way that safeguards our natural spaces for the future. We look forward to building onto this very successful programme.”
Group membership offers a range of benefits and opportunities. All community groups, schools and environmental organisations, among others, can take up the offer of group membership. Groups are limited to 60 children per group. Each group will need to assign a group leader who will sign up as the group and will receive a group starter pack and welcome gift. Children who are signed up as part of a group will still receive the same benefits as those that are individually signed up. This includes a free welcome gift and 20% discount on accommodation for their birthday. Most importantly, members will receive a quarterly newsletter, which is jam-packed with information and action projects to complete.
Action projects earn members points, which come with benefits such as incredible prizes awarded to the top scorers each quarter as well as an invitation to the annual Green Defenders Camp. Children signed up as part of a group may compete in both individual and group competitions. The latest newsletter, which centres around fire and the impact that it has on biodiversity, includes both individual and group activities that earn members points and a theme-specific button badge.

Update on upcoming transitioning period, Cape Peninsula Baboon Advisory Group
The Cape Peninsula Baboon Management Joint Task Team (CPBMJTT) consisting of representatives from SANParks, CapeNature, and the City of Cape Town, wants to inform communities from baboon-affected areas that options are being initiated to enable a presence of baboon rangers during the upcoming transitioning period. In addition, if all goes as planned, the Cape Peninsula Baboon Advisory Group will be formally established next month.
CapeNature celebrates a decade of connecting communities to nature with Access Week 2024
CapeNature celebrates its 10th annual Access Week between the 21st and 27th of September 2024 this year. The public is invited to access any one of 25 selected Provincial nature reserves across the Western Cape for free during this time. Visitors will be allowed day entry at no cost to enjoy activities such as hiking, bird watching, swimming and mountain biking. CapeNature will also be facilitating a variety of programmes for various community groups during this period.
