CapeNature and the Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB) hosted the annual Penguin Palooza on Saturday, 26 November 2022.

CapeNature staff in the CapeNature Protected Area Complexes of Outeniqua, Gamkaberg and Swartberg have recently been working on a rewarding collaborative project aimed at updating our knowledge of leopard population density and compiling leopard identikits.

On 21st of November annually we celebrate World Fisheries Day, to highlight the importance of healthy ocean ecosystems and the importance of ensuring sustainable stocks of fisheries. Fisheries provide us with jobs, food and so much more.

CapeNature has completed a number of upgrades at Algeria, Cederberg Wilderness to offer an even better holiday experience ahead of the festive season. Avid campers will be happy to know that the communal ablution facilities at the ever-popular camping site got a lovely face-lift with several upgrades and improvements implemented.

Unusual numbers of rabbits and wild hares have been dying in the Western Cape since the first week of November. It appears that the deaths are caused by a highly contagious disease, to which South African rabbits and hares have no immunity.

CapeNature was again very well represented at this year’s Conservation Symposium and staff presented a range of informative talks showcasing our work in the conservation sector. Hosted in hybrid form this international event saw over 400 delegates registered from all over the world.

Vredendal - CapeNature welcomes the sentencing of Mr. D. J. Human of Bloemfontein, who was charged under the Nature Conservation Ordinance 19 of 1974 for the poaching of succulent plants.

Christmas is almost here, with many of us looking forward to relaxation and time off with friends and family. At the same time, many corporates are planning the dreaded/daunting employee Christmas rewards and year end functions.

It has been 3 years since CapeNature was last in the position to host an annual Peer Learning Workshop that could compare to previous ones. This workshop however will be remembered for the positive energy that was brought about by CapeNature stewardship staff and our incredible partners in the landscape.

For a hungry person breakfast comes before conservation. The Groenvlei carp project aims to remove invasive carp from the system while at the same time creating a positive spin off for the communities in need.
