Where to Stay

What to Do

Anysberg Tapfontein 4x4 Route

Guests can do the 21km Tapfontein circular route. For day visitors permit is required.

For the scenic Tapfontein 4X4 route, interpretive signage has been erected at the office. A self-explore eco-drive booklet is also available for sale at the office and provides information on stargazing, the fauna, flora, history and geology of the reserve and Khoisan.

Please contact the reserve on 087 087 3036 for more information.

Swimming is permitted. Children should not swim unaccompanied by an adult.

Visitors are welcome to stroll around the reserve. Landsekloof is the only marked trail – 4.4km to the waterfall and back.

Easy to use trail maps for these hiking trails created by Forge can be downloaded here.

Visitors must bring their own mountain bikes to explore the reserve. There are three scenic marked mountain bike trails using the jeep tracks that traverse the reserve.

For an easy ride we have the 7.5km Old School trail. The Tapfontein route is a moderate 22.5km circular route going through some rugged terrain. The Allemorgensfontein MTB trail is 49km for the more experience riders. No water and cellphone reception are available on these trails.

In summer MTB cyclists should set out early in the morning to avoid the heat of the day.

Visitors will enjoy regular sightings of the numerous antelope species and black-backed jackal.  If lucky, species such as Cape Mountain Zebra, caracal and the critical endangered riverine rabbit can be spotted. Leopards still roam the mountains, although these notoriously shy creatures are seldom seen. About 180 bird species are regularly spotted on the reserve, making it a popular choice for birders. Besides the mesmerising landscape and rich plant and animal life, the reserve is also home to San rock art, painted thousands of years ago.

Please note that there is no cell phone reception on the reserve. Wifi is available at the office complex and cottages. There is no firewood available, please bring your own charcoal.

Anysberg must be one of the most beautiful reserves that Cape Nature has. Please don't change anything. Staff are amazing and the whole place is run extremely well. Thank you very much.
